NOZAWA ONSEN

Nozawa Onsen village has been an onsen destination for over 600 years and a ski resort for a 100 years. The winter season is famously wonderful. The green season should not be underestimated with quality road and mountain biking, dry slope skiing, hiking and  13 free public onsens.

Nozawa Onsen has stunning skiing for all abilities.

There are 21 lifts including 18 chair lifts, a moving walkway and two gondolas. The new Nagasaka Gondola is superb and has halved the uplift time to the top of mountain.

There is an excellent blend of runs with 40% beginner, 30% intermediate and 30% advanced. The top of the mountain includes an extensive authorized off piste area.

Snow conditions are typically amazing with 10 metre seasons the norm.

Onsen tourism is gentle and consistent throughout the year. The new Nagasaka Gondola is now open throughout the year opening up the mountain for everyone. The Green Season offers :

Mountain biking : the mountain bike trails improve every year with the new gondola providing rapid uplift and superb 20 – 40 minute descents

Road biking : stunning road rides from the doorstep  include a 12 kms  hill-climb to the Nagasaka Gondola

Hiking & Camping : there are numerous trails and campsites in the area including the Sutakako Camping Ground at the top of our mountain and the famous Shin-etsu trail which can be joined across the valley in Togari Markets and festivals : there are  weekly morning markets  on the main village street throughout the season and numerous ad hoc markets and several lovely village festivals including a charming bamboo festival
